Awesome Reindeer Gift Tag

Warning! Contents of this blog may be awesome! I loved the sentiment included in the Taylored Expressions Spoiler Alert stamp set, and knew I needed to create a tag with it.

I started by colouring and cutting out a bunch of Gerda Steiner’s mischievous reindeer on Copic X-Press it cardstock. He will sit towards the top of my tag.

Copics used: E59, E57, E55, E34, E31, R27

I used the Gina K Designs Delicate snowflake background stamp, white heat embossed and splashed with Ken Oliver Ultramarine Blue ColorBurst powder. I love the vivid, bright blue result this gives.

I’ve made other tags using this same background stamp and colour combo before, and I’ll share them below.

It is much easier to die cut all the tags first, then stamp, heat emboss and paint them, rather than trying to get as many gift tags cut from one 6″ square piece of cardstock. Mass production means you can actually stamp two tags at a time, which doesn’t take long at all.

I stamped and gold heat embossed the sentiment a bunch of times on vellum. Because I was making quite a few tags at one time, it was easier to simply stamp and heat emboss them all at once.

I simply trimmed the sentiment strips with my trimmer and the two ends are folded around to the back of the tag and secured with strong double sided adhesive tape. Any excess is carefully trimmed off. I didn’t add any extra backing to my tag, you may wish to in order to hide the vellum more completely.

The cute reindeer is trimmed down to fit, plus I cut around his arm so it hangs down over the vellum sentiment a little.

I added red glitter stickles to his nose for added shine and sparkle.

Cute Hedgehog Gift Tag

Last year I made many many gift tags – and as a result, I have a box full of little projects that never came to fruition. This is one of those. I had stamped and cut the hedgehogs using Copic X-Press It cardstock, and coloured the hats, but that’s as far as I got :/

Inspiration hit finally! I decided to go with a Kraft and rich red colour scheme. I used scraps I had in my craft room from my local stationery store, but Gina K or Lawn Fawn cardstocks would be comparable and I have linked to those at the end of this post.

I chose the MFT Treat Tag because the hedgehog is quite a large image. I wanted to frame him somehow, and decided on the delicate frame in the Concord & 9th Just Because die set.

To get the gold heat embossed background in the right place, I created a mask tag out of scrap cardstock by cutting the frame out where I wanted it placed. I used my little MISTI to stamp and heat emboss the MFT background stamp, Christmas Words.

I used the dot colouring technique for the grey quills.

I completed colouring the hedgehog images – copics used are:

  • Red: R59, R29, R27, R24
  • Green: G28, G09, G05, G14
  • Grey: W9, W7, W5, W3, W0
  • Skin: E21, E00, E000

To feature him in the frame, I carefully fussy cut out the stocking up to his fist, and trimmed the bottom of the stamped image off. It now sits flush directly on the bottom of the red frame.

Before adhering the framed hedgehog to the tag, I added fluff to the hat with Tsukeniko Radiant Neon Amplify in White – a very effective puffy paint! This stuff puffs up tremendously when heated with the heat gun and STAYS white, giving a lot of dimension.

I glued the frame to the tag, where it fits over the gold heat embossing perfectly

For the finishing ribbon, I added a wide red ribbon found at my local emporium store. It has No Peeking printed on it, and I thought the tone suited the cute image. I used gold ornament cord to secure the wide ribbon, and tied it in a bow.

Finally, the To and From is stamped at the bottom in black, and this stamp is from the Scrapbook.com Gifting and Tag Sentiments – there are three other To & From stamps to use on other gift tags too, plus some other fun sentiments designed for gift tags.

Dapper Reindeer Gift Tag

I love the Simon Says Stamp Picture Book Reindeer – he really is a cutie. I featured this guy on a Christmas gift tag last year, and you can see that tag below too.

I cut out the tags from red cardstock, and the trees from green. PLEASE NOTE: The Hero Arts Paper Layering Pine Tree used here is discontinued, but I have linked a similar shaped tree below.

I coloured the trees using Copic Markers, flicking the colour from dark to light to give the tree some depth and texture. I then cut them all in half, straight down the middle.

Copics used for the Trees: G29, G09, G05.

I lined up the straight edge of the trees onto the edge of the tag, and heat embossed the sentiments in place. You can see I am using both halves of the tree, so no waste of any of my colouring efforts!

I gold heat embossed the little sentiments on either side of the tag, just to the side of the lower part of the tree.

I also liberally sprayed the tag with Gold Shimmer spray.

I cut and coloured the reindeer one at a time. One of the features of the Picture Book dies is that they cut all the pieces at once, although the antlers are a separate piece in this case.

Copics used for the Reindeer: R59, R57, R55, R30, R20.

The banner is from an older My Favorite Things Tag set, and I cut and glued the folds together and stamped the To & From on them. I used the banner as a guide for placement of the first part of the reindeer body and built him up from there in the centre of the tag. Once the reindeer was glued down, the banner was fixed in place right at the bottom.

I added black glaze pen to the eyes and nose details, along with Nuvo Ivory drops to the tree for beautiful baubles. I thought he looked a little underdressed, and the scarf in the reindeer die set wasn’t working for me (we have summertime Christmases here in New Zealand), so I found some tartan patterned paper and created a little bow tie.

The Picture Book Reindeer was featured on one of my gift tags last year too.

The tag is a Concord & 9th gift tag from the Sprinkles Turnabout set, cut from same red cardstock. The reindeer is also coloured with Copics and built the same way from the bottom of the tag. The little snowflakes (CZ Design) are white heat embossed to make a hand stamped background.

The Ho Ho Ho sentiment is from an old Stampin’ Up! set.

Christmas Tree Gift Tags

I love the rich colour and impact of these gift tags! I’m sure they’ll catch the recipient’s eye from under the tree very effectively 🙂

I cut out all the pieces for the trees from watercolour cardstock and handpainted each piece with Ken Oliver ColorBurst watercolor powders. It sounds like a lot, but it probably took a couple of hours to get through all the pieces.

I tried to make the colour darker towards the top of each piece to give shadows and depth. I simply coloured the tree stump with a brown copic marker (E57). I used thin double sided adhesive to put the tree pieces together, just a thin strip at the top of each piece, plus I glued the tree stump to the bottom.

The tags were heat embossed using the Hero Arts Candy Stripe Background Stamp – white heat embossed on the white tag and clear heat embossed on the red tag.

I glued the trees down onto the tag, with the tree stump aligned to the bottom of the tag. I left the very top of the tree unstuck, so I had room to add ribbon later.

I cut Vellum strips at 3/4″ to stretch across the tree centre and stuck down on the back with thin double sided adhesive. You can leave that part visible, or add a gift card pocket to the back which hides that bit to some extent.

I cut the MFT Joy die out of both gold mirror cardstock and scrap and glued two layers together. I wanted just a little dimension on the die cut as I felt it just looked better.

For the red tag, a black 3/4″ strip was cut and the sentiment white heat embossed and simply glued down onto the tree.

I decorated the trees with gems from Pretty Pink Posh – bright colours for the white tag plus a gold star, and iridescent gems and pearls for the red version. The tree on the white tag has a star cut from the mirror gold cardstock on top. Gold and green ribbon added to the top finishes these tags off nicely.
