The Best of the Basics – COLOUR

Sometimes, all you need is a little splash of colour!

It’s taken weeks! This is quite a large subject, and if you are unsure of where to start, it can be rather overwhelming. There is so much to cover when it comes to adding colour to projects and I have created a COLOUR page in my The Best of the Basics Series. This is an overview of the different inks, markers and tools available to Kiwi crafters. Where I can, I have included links to where you can find these products to purchase, and also find colouring classes and tutorials online for more in-depth information.

There are many different ways to add colour to your projects and I have listed many of the ways I like to use colour in my craft room – there are still many more techniques for me to explore!

Copic Markers
Distress Inks
ColorBurst watercolour powders

There are new products being introduced all the time. Distress Inks have been around for a number of years, and over the past 24 months, Tim has released his Distress Oxide range. I love both ink lines and use them in just about every project I tackle. I have just started collecting the Oxide sprays and intend to try them out in an upcoming session of background creations.

Nuvo Shimmer Powders are new this year too, and complement the Ken Oliver ColorBursts brilliantly. I can’t help myself when it comes to shimmery, glittery things and they were an immediate addition to my craft room. Many cards I made this year featured these powders – I imagine there will be many more!

There is just one more subject I want to include in my Best of the Basics Series – that is Handy Tools. So keep an eye out – I have tried many ‘handy’ tools in my craft room over the years, and I intend to share with you what I have found to be worth the $$.

Merry Christmas to you, and thank you for your visit! Have a safe and happy holiday break.

Best of the Basics Series

Hi all! I am still quietly building my Best of the Basics Series on my website – Adhesives and Heat Embossing pages have been added to the list (which already lists Cardstocks, Inks for Stamping, Die Cutting Machines & Trimmers).

I wanted to create a bunch of handy reference pages covering the basic techniques and supplies for New Zealand Crafters – tell me if you’d like to see something specifically covered.

Come and check it out – they even include shopping links so you don’t have to spend all your evening Googling 😀

There are still a couple more pages to come – covering Colour and Handy Tools – so follow my blog to see the updates.

Thank you so much for visiting!

Best of the Basics Series

Ever felt a little overwhelmed about just how many different things are required for cardmaking? Wondering where to start? Where to find some of the things you’ve seen on YouTube? Or maybe you’d simply like to update some of your supplies. Check out my new series covering the best of the basic supplies for cardmaking and where to get them – a resource for New Zealand Crafters.

I have started this little series Best of the Basics and it will be a permanent fixture on my website for future reference. Here, I will add articles over the coming weeks about the basic cardmaking supplies with which I have found the most success. It will be a great place for beginners and seasoned crafters alike as a handy reference, and hopefully help with deciding on which products are worth the investment to you.

When I started out in this cardmaking hobby, I searched the internet and Facebook for information – turns out I was hunting for the Stamp Junkies mere weeks before they existed! If you’re not a Junkie, come and join us already!

New Zealand is a small country and we have just a handful of brick and mortar craft stores to see things first hand for ourselves. Finding the products that have worked for me has been a journey of trial and error – and much money was spent in the process! I have learned A LOT from Jennifer McGuire and happily purchased products she has recommended – often with great results. (She is a great resource and releases incredible YouTube videos – I highly recommend her blog).

So with all that in mind, I have been wanting to create a resource for us Kiwi Crafters here at InkyandStampy – somewhere to go and find information about products available, which ones are worth the money, and more importantly, where to get them!

The first two articles are available – I look at Cardstock and their purposes, which are best for card bases and interactive cards, which are great for markers and waterbased products. I also look at basic Inks for Stamping – when to use which black ink where?

I encourage you to take a look. If there’s something you’d like me to cover in the coming weeks, please don’t hesitate to let me know!

Shop owners – I’d like to include you in my list for crafters to find you – please enquire about being included in the directory.

It’s an Aussie Christmas!

I have two cards featured on the Uniquely Creative Blog this month using the Aussie Christmas Mini Kit! I had so much fun with this little kit – which includes stamps, matching dies, a stencil, chipboard elements and cute sentiment strips.

The first card features the small emu with his antler hat, searching for his gifts – all instructions can be found here.

The second card is a multi-layered delight – completely see through AND has a shaker on the back for added special fun! All instructions (including photos!) can be found here.

Thanks for visiting!
